Singapore, 17 May 2011 – Some 20 warships from around the globe, including the latest stealth frigates, corvettes and destroyers, arrived in Singapore for the opening ceremony of IMDEX Asia 2011, which begins tomorrow at the Changi Exhibition Centre. The warships arrived from countries such as Australia, France, India, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and will be berthed at the Changi Naval Base throughout the three-day event.
Jimmy Lau, Managing Director of Experia Events – the organisers of IMDEX Asia – highlighted the strategic importance of IMDEX Asia for key stakeholders of the maritime defence industry to build new partnerships and strengthen existing ones. He said: “The strong support from partner countries and industry representatives is testimony to the show’s success and reputation as the leading maritime defence show in the region and the second largest in the world. IMDEX Asia 2011 will play host to more than 70 VIP delegations from 42 countries with more than 160 exhibiting companies, some 40 Naval and Coast Guard Chiefs and Vice-Chiefs and some 20 warships.”
