The Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) is a statutory board set up under the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). It is responsible for implementing defence technology plans, acquiring defence materiel and developing defence infrastructure for MINDEF. DSTA’s roles and functions are to acquire weapon systems; advise on all defence science and technology matters; design, develop and maintain defence infrastructure; provide engineering and related services in defence areas; and promote and facilitate the development of defence science and technology in Singapore.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is the driving force behind Singapore’s port and maritime development. MPA’s mission is to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and International Maritime Centre, and to advance and safeguard Singapore’s strategic maritime interests.
The mission of the RSN is to enhance Singapore’s peace and security through deterrence and diplomacy, and should these fail, to secure a swift and decisive victory over the aggressor at sea. The RSN will ensure Singapore’s seaward defence, secure our sea lines of communication, and maintain a high level of operational readiness and a broad spectrum of capabilities to support our national interest.
The S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) was officially inaugurated on 1 January 2007. Prior to this, it was known as the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS), which was established 10 years earlier, on 30 July 1996, by Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, then Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence. Dr Tony Tan later became the elected seventh President of the Republic of Singapore. Like its predecessor, RSIS was established as an autonomous entity within Nanyang Technological University (NTU). RSIS’ goal is to be a leading research and graduate teaching institution in strategic and international affairs in the Asia Pacific.
