Canada issues long lead funding for JSS

The Canadian government has released USD$49 million in funding for Vancouver Shipyards to begin purchasing equipment for vessels to be built as part of the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the government of Canada announced on 14 March.

The two long lead contracts will allow Vancouver Shipyards to commence discussions with potential suppliers and begin purchasing material and equipment to build the navy's Joint Support Ships (JSS) and the coast guard's Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel (OOSV). Material such as generators, scientific equipment and propulsion systems will be purchased.

MBDA completes SIMBAD-RC trial

MBDA has successfully completed two Mistral firings using a SIMBAD-RC firing post, the company announced on 17 March, marking the last technical milestone before customer deliveries begin.

The firings - performed using ten-degree and 50-degree angle of elevation - validated the interface between the missile and the new twin-launcher, and confirmed the system’s ability to carry out salvo firings. The correct departure of the missile from the firing post was also confirmed. Tests in different mechanical and climatic environments will complete the qualification of the system.

Goa Shipyard launches MCGS Victory

Goa Shipyard has launched MCGS Victory, the first fast patrol vessel built for the Mauritius Coast Guard (MCG), it announced on 29 February.

The vessel, developed and built by Goa Shipyard, is designed for coastal patrol, anti-poaching, anti-drug surveillance, anti-smuggling, anti-piracy and search and rescue operations. It is armed with a 30mm CRN-91 gun, 7.62mm medium machine gun, 12.7mm heavy machine gun, and navigation and communication equipment. The 50m vessel can travel at speeds of up to 35 knots.

Cambridge Pixel supplies radar software to OSI

Cambridge Pixel’s radar simulator software has been supplied to OSI Maritime Systems (OSI) as part of an Integrated Bridge System being delivered to the Royal Malaysian Navy, the company announced on 2 March.

OSI is supplying an Integrated Bridge System to Malaysia for its new Littoral Combat Ships (LCS).
